Phillips New York relocates to 432 Park Avenue tower
Phillips auction house, founded in 1796, is moving its New York headquarters from 450 Park Avenue to 432 Park Avenue, the tallest residential tower in the Western Hemisphere. The new space spans over 5,000 square meters, including the Park Avenue Cube, a 400-square-meter white glass structure illuminated at night, and a 2,700-square-meter column-free underground atrium with direct access from Park Avenue. The column-free design addresses a known criticism of Phillips' current salesroom, where a large column obstructs views of the auction podium, as noted by Robin Pogrebin of The New York Times. CEO Edward Dolman stated the move marks a milestone for the company, offering state-of-the-art exhibition space for contemporary art, design, watches, and jewelry, and complementing their London gallery at Berkeley Square. The new venue will also include a café, an auditorium, and private sales galleries. The office entrance at 40 East 57th Street will feature a 28-meter glass totem inspired by the 96-story tower's design. Phillips has offices in Geneva, Moscow, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Seoul. The relocation is scheduled for 2019.
