Phillips New York Evening Sale Reaches $111M, Led by Richter
Phillips achieved $111 million in its New York Evening Sale of contemporary and 20th-century art, marking a strong performance amid a sluggish art market. The sale featured a prestigious group of lots from fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger's collection, including five works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, Jean Dubuffet, and Keith Haring, all sold. The top lot was Gerhard Richter's Düsenjäger from Paul Allen's collection, sold for $25.565 million, just above its low estimate. Other highlights included Roy Lichtenstein's Nudes in Mirror (1994) at $19 million (below its $20 million estimate) and Willem de Kooning's Untitled XXVIII (1977) at $11.4 million.
