Phillips London Auction Achieves £13.7M, Led by Warhol Portrait of Princess Diana

Phillips' The 20th Century & Contemporary Art auction in London on March 7, 2024, realized £13.7 million. The top lot was Andy Warhol's Portrait of Princess Diana (1982), selling for £2.4 million against an estimate of £1.2-1.8 million. Yayoi Kusama's INFINITY-NETS (ZXSSAO) (2008) followed at £2.1 million, and Cecily Brown's Luck Just Kissed You Hello (2013) achieved £1.5 million. Two auction records were set: Kehinde Wiley's Christian Martyr Tarcisius (2008) sold for £660,400 (estimate £200,000-300,000), and Jesse Mockrin's A Cymbal Crashed and Roaring Horns (2017) reached £120,650 (double the low estimate). Of 26 lots offered, 23 sold (88% by lot, 89% by value). This compares to the previous year's auction which totaled £20.3 million from 23 lots. Italian artist Salvo's Mediterraneo (2008) also performed strongly, selling for £368,300 against an estimate of £100,000-150,000.
