Philippe Weisbecker's First New York Gallery Solo Show Features Drawings of Utilitarian Objects

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The debut solo exhibition of Philippe Weisbecker at Zieher Smith & Horton highlights his drawings of functional items, which reveal his fascination with their aesthetic appeal. After spending 40 years in New York working for Time and The New Yorker, the French illustrator has returned to Paris to pursue independent work. His artwork features various objects like furniture, cars, and trailers, often rendered on vintage ledgers. Weisbecker's approach combines minimalism and conceptual art with an Outsider perspective. This exhibition marks the first initiative of the newly merged gallery and is open until October 4 at 516 West 20th Street, New York. Notable pieces include "Ecodeco Vanessa" (2007), measuring 11-3/4 x 15 inches, created with graphite and colored pencil on paper. For inquiries, call 212 229 1088.
