Philippe Van Cauteren Curates Iraq Pavilion at 2015 Venice Biennale with 'Invisible Beauty' Exhibition
At the 2015 Venice Biennale, the Iraq pavilion, curated by Philippe Van Cauteren, showcases 'Invisible Beauty' at Ca'Dandolo, San Polo 2879. This exhibition, commissioned by the Ruya Foundation, highlights the works of five artists: Salam Atta Sabri, Latif Al Ani, and Akam Shex Hadi from Iraq, alongside Haider Jabbar and Rabab Ghazoul from the diaspora. Their creations, which encompass photography, drawing, painting, and video, portray the current realities of Iraq. Van Cauteren emphasizes the role of art in addressing conflicts and aims to focus on the artists rather than national identity. Additionally, 'Traces of Survival,' featuring drawings by Iraqi refugees and contributions from Ai Weiwei, complements the exhibition. He intends to present 'Invisible Beauty' at S.M.A.K. in Ghent, Belgium.
