Philippe Thomas's 1985 Exhibition Recreated at Galerie Jan Mot
Galerie Jan Mot in Brussels presents a near-identical reconstruction of Philippe Thomas's 1985 exhibition originally held at Galerie Claire Burrus in Paris. The show, on view from March 9 to April 20, 2013, revisits Thomas's conceptual work that explores artist identity, authorship, and the collector's role. Inspired by Fantin-Latour's Hommage à Delacroix, Thomas transformed collectors into artists, positioning himself behind a Mediterranean horizon titled Vue de l'esprit. The reconstruction includes a conversation between the two gallerists in Jan Mot's newspaper. Thomas (1951-1995) remains relevant as younger artists sometimes merely plagiarize predecessors' innovations.
