Philippe Pirotte to Curate 2016 Biennale de Montréal
Philippe Pirotte has been selected as curator for the 2016 Biennale de Montréal, which will run from 19 October 2016 to 15 January 2017. Currently serving as director of Frankfurt's Städelschule art school and its Portikus gallery, Pirotte brings extensive international experience to the role. The Belgian-born art historian, curator, and critic co-founded Antwerp's objectif_exhibitions and directed Switzerland's Kunsthalle Bern from 2005 to 2011. His advisory roles include positions at Amsterdam's Rijksakademie for Visual Arts, the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Nanjing's Sifang Art Museum, and the Kadist Art Foundation with locations in Paris and San Francisco. The biennial is being co-produced with the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC).
