Philippe Malouin's Smart Shelf debuts at EuroCucina 2026

architecture-design · 2026-05-12

Philippe Malouin has designed the Smart Shelf for the Italian company Very Simple Kitchen, which serves as a versatile kitchen shelf incorporating air extraction, lighting, and storage capabilities. In partnership with Falmec, a kitchen hood manufacturer, the design embraces a minimalist aesthetic, opting for tactile knobs and a contrasting power cord instead of touchscreens, highlighting the charm of analogue technology. This shelf is meant to act as both a functional appliance and an architectural feature, harmonizing with Very Simple Kitchen's modular offerings. The collaboration reflects a mutual understanding of the kitchen as a personal space, merging Very Simple Kitchen's sleek stainless steel design with Falmec's air extraction know-how. The Smart Shelf debuted at EuroCucina during Salone del Mobile in April 2026 and will be available for purchase later this year, constructed from painted steel.
