Philipp Kaiser co-curates Swiss Pavilion at 2017 Venice Biennale with exhibition 'Women of Venice'

exhibition · 2026-04-20

From 13 May to 26 November 2017, Phil Kaiser co-curates the Swiss pavilion at the Venice Biennale with the exhibition titled 'Women of Venice', which explores the absence of Alberto Giacometti. New works by Carol Bove and the duo Teresa Hubbard/Alexander Birchler pay homage to Giacometti's influence. Hubbard and Birchler showcase a film installation focusing on Flora Mayo, Giacometti's partner, intertwining elements of fiction and documentary. Bove's sculptures draw inspiration from Giacometti's later works. Kaiser expresses his pride in the curation, highlighting the Biennale's historical importance since 1895. He reflects on previous Biennales and anticipates the contributions of Anne Imhof, Phyllida Barlow, and Christine Macel. The Swiss pavilion, designed by Bruno Giacometti, is located in the Giardini.
