Philip Colbert's Lobsters Invade Naples Archaeological Museum
The National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN) hosts 'House of the Lobster', a solo exhibition by Scottish artist Philip Colbert, from January 26 to April 1, 2024. This marks Colbert's first collaboration with an archaeological institution. The show features marble and bronze sculptures, as well as large oil paintings, all centered on his iconic lobster motif. The inspiration comes from a marine mosaic from Pompeii (VIII.2.16) depicting a battle between a lobster, a moray eel, and an octopus. Colbert's 'Pompeii Series' reimagines this underwater combat. The artist previously exhibited 'The Lobster Empire' in Naples in 2023, and his lobsters appeared on Via Veneto in Rome in 2022. He has also partnered with AS Roma, designing merchandise and a steel sculpture for the Stadio Olimpico's hospitality areas.
