Philadelphia Museum and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Launch Time-Based Media Commissioning Program

Rachel Rose has received the inaugural Future Fields Commission in Time-Based Media, a collaborative initiative between the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. This biennial program will support new work in video, sound, film, and performance art. Rose's commission will premiere at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in spring 2018 before traveling to the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin during winter 2018. Her project explores 16th century agrarian England, examining connections between reality, perception, history, and coincidence. Rose gained recognition after graduating from Columbia University in 2013 with works like Sitting Feeding Sleeping (2013) and Palisades (2014). She presented solo exhibitions at London's Serpentine Galleries and the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2015. ArtReview named her a Future Greats artist in 2014. The selection committee included Fondazione president Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and curator Irene Calderoni, alongside Philadelphia Museum curators Carlos Basualdo, Erica F. Battle, and Amanda Sroka. The program ensures regular acquisition and presentation of time-based media works through institutional partnership.
