Phantasmagoria: Folkloric Sculpture for the Digital Age at Henry Moore Institute
The Henry Moore Institute in Leeds presents 'Phantasmagoria: Folkloric Sculpture for the Digital Age', a group exhibition exploring the collision of ancient folklore, occult practices, and digital technologies. The show features works by Joey Holder, Jürgen Baumann, Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, and others, using AI, 3D printing, and video game mechanics to examine how digital networks are reshaping sculpture. Holder's 'Cazimi' sigil adorns the facade, timed to the Mercury cazimi on 14 May. Inside, Holder's 'The Woosphere' installation includes arcade consoles featuring philosopher Jean Baudrillard, an alien intelligence named LAM, a synthetic brain, and the Golem. Brathwaite-Shirley's 'PIRATING BLACKNESS/BLACKTRANSSEA.COM' centers on a halved fishing boat with interactive buttons, forcing viewers to choose their ancestral relation to the slave trade. Baumann's 'Piggod or the Lernaean Serpent' uses clear polystyrene glazing. The exhibition runs until 31 May, free entry.
