Pezo von Ellrichshausen's 'Echo' at Palazzo Litta for Milan Design Week 2019
During the 2019 Fuorisalone, Palazzo Litta in Milan hosted 'Echo', an installation by Chilean studio Pezo von Ellrichshausen. The work, named after the nymph Echo, consists of a cubic passage topped by an inverted truncated pyramid, both made of mirror-polished steel. It reflects the Baroque colonnade and cobblestone pavement of the courtyard, creating a non-place that replicates and disassembles its surroundings. Inside, dark coffered walls enclose the visitor in an alien space open only to the sky, linking nature and architecture—a theme central to the studio's research, also evident in their pavilions at the Venice Biennale. The installation induces both introverted and extroverted contemplation, affirming and dematerializing the monumental frame. The piece was part of 'The Litta Variations' exhibition series.
