Petticoat Government Collective to Represent Belgium at 60th Venice Biennale with Transdisciplinary Fiction
From 20 April to 24 November 2024, the Petticoat Government will showcase Belgium at the 60th Venice Biennale, situated in the Giardini. The initiative features curator Antoinette Jattiot, architect Pauline Fockedey, and artists Simona Denicolai and Ivo Provoost, along with Studio Speculoos. Their interdisciplinary project merges art, architecture, and cartography, drawing inspiration from giants in northern European folklore. The team seeks to explore alternative forms of collective organization while challenging the concept of national representation. Influenced by Mierle Laderman Ukeles and Jef Geys, they anticipate contributions from Sol Calero and Kapwani Kiwanga, advocating for a culturally diverse art narrative and highlighting Belgium's six parliaments.
