PetriPaselli: The Duo Behind the Pink Flamingo Cover

publication · 2026-05-05

Matteo and Luciano, known as PetriPaselli, are a photographer and engineer duo who have been friends for thirty years. Their work is deeply rooted in pop culture and kitsch, drawing from their compulsive collecting of odd objects from flea markets. They are launching a new visual-only editorial project called 99objects, a quarterly book/magazine that will focus on a single collectible object per issue, presented in 99 variations with no text. The first issue will be presented in Bologna in October. They are also collaborating with Mario Turci, director of the Museo Guatelli, on research into 'minor' or popular collecting, which they distinguish from wealthy collecting. Their artistic influences include Luigi Ghirri, Joseph Cornell, Elmgreen & Dragset, and others. The cover image for the magazine features pink flamingos, a kitsch icon, with a pop reference to Hitchcock's The Birds.
