Petition launched to protect Vittorio Giorgini's Casa Saldarini with heritage status
The Italian Soprintendenza has received a request from the B.A.Co. Archivio Vittorio Giorgini to safeguard Casa Saldarini, a structure designed by architect Vittorio Giorgini between 1962 and 1965 in Baratti (Piombino). This building is considered his most significant creation, featuring a distinctive double-shell mesh and cement construction method. The appeal has garnered support from prominent Italian architectural organizations and notable individuals, such as Tomaso Montanari and Stefano Boeri. Recognized as an 'excellence work' in 2011, Casa Saldarini was included in the MiBACT census in 2001. The call for protection highlights its cultural importance, especially after alterations were made following its sale in 1977. Nearby, Casa Esagono will serve as a residence for artists and scholars.
