Peter Stein retraces Goethe's Sicilian journey in Sky Arte documentary

On August 28, 2023, the 274th anniversary of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's birth, Sky Arte aired the documentary 'Sulle tracce di Goethe in Sicilia' (On the Trail of Goethe in Sicily). Directed by theater and opera director Peter Stein, the film follows the route Goethe took through Sicily in 1787 with illustrator Christoph Heinrich Kniep. Stein and his film crew visited the same locations Goethe recorded, creating a comparison between the 18th-century island and its contemporary state. Like Goethe, Stein seeks the roots of European culture through this journey. The documentary is produced by Sky Arte and curated by Artribune.
