Peter Saul Curates Group Show at Galerie Zürcher Paris

Galerie Zürcher in Paris presents 'If You’re Accidentally Not Included, Don’t Worry About It,' a group show curated by Peter Saul, running from October 31 to December 22, 2014. The exhibition originated at the gallery's New York space in April 2014, where Saul was invited to select works freely—a first in his 19-year teaching career. Due to its success, a lighter version traveled to Paris. The show features artists including Taylor McKimens, Austin Lee, Erik Parker, Mark Greenwold, Irena Jurek, Sally Saul, and Peter Saul himself. Saul's selection reflects his own artistic universe: grotesque, caricatural, and pop-inflected. McKimens contributes a tragicomic cartoon-like work on paper. Austin Lee's acrylic and aerosol portraits, such as 'Alex' and 'TBD,' evoke Fellini's Satyricon and Grünewald's Isenheim Altarpiece. Erik Parker's mixed-media piece 'Life Line' blends store signage with neo-medieval manuscript aesthetics. Mark Greenwold's 'Passionate Friends' presents a distorted figurative interior. Irena Jurek's 'Angel Kitty' captures a cartoon cat with perverse gaze in thick blue paint. Sally Saul shows a ceramic vase, and Peter Saul a burlesque drawing. The exhibition celebrates Saul's influence and his role in pop art, notably his 1963 painting 'Superman's Punishment,' which used comic language before the pop movement.
