Peter Nobel's Press Art Collection at LAC Lugano

The exhibition 'And Now the Good News' at LAC Lugano showcases about a quarter of the press art collection assembled by Zurich lawyer Peter Nobel and his wife Annette. The collection spans the entire 20th century to the present, featuring works that incorporate newspaper pages or fragments, paintings on newsprint, and photographs depicting newspapers or magazines. Highlights include historical collages by Kurt Schwitters, contemporary works by Martha Rosler and Thomas Hirschhorn, paintings on newsprint by de Kooning, Le Corbusier, and Polke, and photographs by Wolfgang Tillmans and other 20th-century masters. The exhibition is organized into thematic chapters, making it both scholarly and enjoyable. Nobel began collecting press art after realizing the potential of focusing on this theme, and he personally selects all works without consultants. The first piece acquired was by Hannes Portmann, and a desired piece is 'Demain' by Rudolf Mumprecht. Nobel believes the power of newspapers and mass media has grown despite declining circulation, and that print media will continue in different forms. The exhibition runs until August 15, 2016, curated by Elio Schenini and Christoph Doswald.
