Peter Marino to Open Private Foundation in the Hamptons
Architect Peter Marino, known for designing Armani's New York flagship and Louis Vuitton's Los Angeles store, is opening a private foundation in the Hamptons. The foundation will be housed in the former Rogers Memorial Library Building, designed by R.H. Robertson in 1895, adjacent to the Southampton Arts Centre. The nearly 750-square-meter space will be fully renovated to display Marino's collection, which includes works by Andy Warhol, Zhang Huan, and Robert Mapplethorpe. Marino purchased the building for nearly $6 million, though details remain confidential. The opening is scheduled by September 2019. Marino stated he wants to share his art and give new life to the structure, which previously housed the Parrish Art Museum. Tom Dunn, Executive Director of the Southampton Arts Centre, expressed enthusiasm, noting potential collaboration rather than rivalry. Until the foundation opens, Marino's collection is on view at the Southampton Arts Centre through September 23 in the exhibition COUNTERPOINT: Selections from The Peter Marino Collection.
