Peter Marino's Tiffany Silver Collection Showcased in New Book and Southampton Exhibition

Architect and designer Peter Marino has released a book with Phaidon Press titled 'Tiffany Silver: The Peter Marino Collection,' a 136-page hardback celebrating his five-decade-long passion for Tiffany silver. The publication highlights pieces that might not immediately appeal to all collectors, reflecting Marino's interest in the 'black sheep' of the arts. A concurrent exhibition at the Peter Marino Art Foundation in Southampton, New York, displays over 100 Tiffany mixed-metal works through October 3. The works feature nature motifs such as flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, and fish, with accents of gold, copper, and other metals, often in a Japonesque style. On August 15, Marino will discuss and sign copies of the book at the foundation as part of the Peter Marino Book Club. Marino began collecting under the guidance of curator Sam Wagstaff, who introduced him to the then-under-appreciated Aesthetic Movement. His collection includes pitchers, candelabra, trophies, platters, sugar bowls, and serving pieces adorned with mixed-metal ornament. In a statement, Marino emphasized that the collection reflects what he believes all great art should: offering new discoveries upon each viewing, expressing great truth, and showcasing the highest level of craftsmanship.
