Peter Kotek's NestOff prefabricated micro-cabin integrates compact living with Hungarian landscape
NestOff, a 20-square-meter micro-retreat located in northern Hungary near Romhány, was designed by architect Peter Kotek. This unit examines how small-scale architecture can deliver fully functional living areas while minimizing environmental impact. Situated on a slope, it boasts a panoramic opening that showcases the landscape and combines sleeping, sitting, cooking, and storage into a single space crafted from birch plywood. The bathroom is compact, and the design includes an outdoor terrace, sauna, and hot tub. Construction, carried out by Tajga-Depo, focuses on prefabrication for accuracy and waste reduction, utilizing ground screw foundations for easy relocation. The initiative seeks to establish a network of small retreats with minimal disruption to the site. György Endrész captured the project, with editing by Christina Vergopoulou for designboom.
