Peter Halley’s Site-Specific Installation at Museo Nivola in Orani
At the Museo Nivola in Orani, Sardinia, Peter Halley has unveiled "Antesteria," a site-specific installation housed in a renovated rationalist public washhouse. The name, derived from an ancient Greek festival dedicated to Dionysus, encapsulates the work's essence, which features vibrant flat color fields and dynamic arrangements that juxtapose rationality with fluorescent elements. Drawing from influences such as Frank Stella, Donald Judd, and Dan Flavin, the installation employs mirrors and uses prison cell windows as symbols of societal isolation. This project was inspired by a visit two years ago from museum director Antonella Camarda and curator Giuliana Altea to Halley's studio. Classicist Sotera Fornaro suggested the title, connecting it to themes of life and death while Halley's art reflects societal control through color and geometry.
