Peter Eisenman to Receive Piranesi Prix de Rome Lifetime Achievement Award
On March 10, American architect Peter Eisenman, born in 1932, will be honored with the Piranesi Prix de Rome at the Casa dell’Architettura in Rome. Regarded as the successor to Italian rationalist Giuseppe Terragni, Eisenman’s work is shaped by the philosophies of Nietzsche, Chomsky, Derrida, and Deleuze. He rose to fame in 1967 with MoMA's The New York Five exhibition. Notable deconstructivist designs by Eisenman include House II, House VI, and House X. He has held teaching positions at various universities and established the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies. Presently, he is finalizing the City of Culture of Galicia in Spain. His accolades in Italy include the Rome Prize Fellowship in 1976 and an honorary degree from Sapienza University in 2003.
