Peter Buggenhout's 'Informe' Sculptures at La Maison Rouge

exhibition · 2026-04-23

From June 12 to September 26, 2010, Peter Buggenhout's exhibition at La Maison Rouge, Fondation Antoine de Galbert in Paris showcases sculptures that reflect Georges Bataille's 'informe' idea. Transitioning from painting to sculpture in 1990, Buggenhout incorporates both found and created materials. His series 'The Blinds Leading the Blinds' features assemblages of grilles and textiles, reminiscent of decay and organic refuse, arranged on laboratory tables to resemble magnified microbes. The installation titled 'What the Fuck' displays an airplane wreck and a sea monster jaw. 'Gorgo' incorporates blood and horsehair, alluding to ethnographic headdresses. The 'Mont Ventoux' series consists of white sculptures made from cow entrails, evoking both organs and landscapes, while referencing Petrarch's climb. The exhibition is linked to nearby works by Jean de Maximy.
