Peter Brook, legendary theatre director, dies at 97
Peter Brook, the influential British theatre and film director, died on July 2, 2022, in Paris at the age of 97. Born in London in 1925, he had lived in Paris since the 1970s. In 1985, he created the nine-hour epic Mahābhārata with Jean-Claude Carrière. Brook also authored influential books on theatre, including The Empty Space (1968), The Shifting Point (1988), The Open Door (1993), and the memoir Threads of Time (1998). In a 2018 interview with Artribune, he emphasized that theatre should not impose lessons but allow each spectator a personal experience.
