Peshmerga: Photographic Story of Kurdish Fighters by B STUDIO
B STUDIO, a creative lab founded by Stefano Sbrulli, Francesco Sanesi, and Margherita Macrì in Rome's San Lorenzo district, has self-published its first project: 'Peshmerga', a photographic fanzine documenting the training of Kurdish Peshmerga fighters in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan. Sbrulli traveled to the green zone and captured the fighters' makeshift uniforms, non-standard weapons, and mismatched shoes, challenging the conventional image of a soldier. The project aims to portray the Peshmerga as ordinary men called to be soldiers, highlighting their fears, nostalgias, inner conflicts, and pride in being photographed in uniform. The fanzine combines photography, graphics, and writing in a sober, measured way, with no imposed reading, emphasizing the nuances of a controversial people and army. B STUDIO, active for a few months, focuses on graphics, photography, and publishing, self-producing ideas independently to capture minor stories overlooked by the mainstream.
