Pesaro Named Italian Capital of Culture 2024

The city was selected from a pool of ten contenders, which included Ascoli Piceno and Siracusa. The decision was made by a jury led by Silvia Calandrelli, who assessed the applications on March 3 and 4. Previous titles were awarded to Cagliari and Parma, while Procida currently holds the title, and Bergamo and Brescia share it for 2023. Mayor Matteo Ricci dedicated the accolade to Kharkiv. The winning proposal, titled "The Nature of Culture," focuses on sustainability and innovation. Deputy Mayor Daniele Vimini highlighted a €15 million cultural budget and expressed surprise at the win, mentioning plans for a bid for European Capital of Culture 2033.
