Perugia Marks Canova Bicentennial with Umbrian Itinerary Exhibition
An exhibition named "Al tempo di Canova. Un itinerario umbro" is taking place in Perugia to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Antonio Canova's passing on October 13, 1822. This event will be open until November 1, 2022, at Palazzo Baldeschi al Corso and MUSA. Curated by Stefania Petrillo, it showcases approximately 130 pieces, including Canova's plaster casts such as "Le tre Grazie." The exhibit delves into the artistic connections between Umbria and Rome, as well as the impact of Napoleonic rule, emphasizing Canova's role in cultural preservation. It features sections like "L’Umbria pontificia" and "L’eredità di Canova," with contributions from over 35 scholars, revealing discoveries such as Canova's plaster self-portraits and a large horse head model for Ferdinand I's monument.
