PerSo Film Festival Returns to Perugia with 60+ Documentaries

The PerSo – Perugia Social Film Festival will take place from September 20 to 30, 2018, in Perugia, Italy. The festival features over 60 documentary films from around the world, including 8 national premieres in the main competition, with a total prize fund of €18,000. Screenings are free and held across four cinemas. The festival comprises five competitive sections: PerSo Award for international documentaries in Italian premiere, PerSo Cinema Italiano for Italian productions, PerSo Short Award for short films, Premio Umbria in celluloide for social themes related to Umbria, and PerSo Lab supporting film projects with a cash prize and mentorship. Official jury members include Sérgio Tréfaut, Federica Di Giacomo, Luciano Barisone, and Irene Dionisio. Special juries involve inmates from the Capanne prison, asylum seekers, and the public. A retrospective section, 'Il cinema della follia,' marks the 40th anniversary of the Basaglia Law with a screening of 'Matti da slegare' (1975) by Marco Bellocchio, Silvano Agosti, Sandro Petraglia, and Stefano Rulli, filmed inside the Colorno psychiatric hospital.
