Perrotin to open fourth Asian outpost in Shanghai
During the Armory Show, Emmanuel Perrotin announced a new gallery in Shanghai, the fourth in Asia after Hong Kong, Seoul, and Tokyo. This makes Perrotin the first Western gallery with four Asian locations. The Shanghai space will be in the Bund district, a strategic area frequented by businesspeople and tourists, occupying a massive 13,000-square-meter structure. It is set to open in September 2018 and aims to become the gallery's most important Asian outpost. The announcement comes just nine months after the Tokyo space opened. Perrotin already has six locations in Paris, New York, and Asia. The expansion reflects growing interest in Shanghai's art scene, fueled by local collectors and private museums like Qiao Space, Long Museum, and Yuz Museum. Other international galleries such as Lévy Gorvy and Hauser & Wirth have also announced plans to open in Shanghai.
