Perrotin opens tenth location in Los Angeles former theater

French mega-gallery Perrotin will open its tenth global location in Los Angeles in February 2024, during Frieze week (February 29–March 3). The new space occupies the historic 1930s Del Mar Theater on West Pico Boulevard in Mid-City, spanning approximately 1,000 square meters of exhibition and office space. The inaugural show will be a solo exhibition by Izumi Kato. The renovation, led by Johnston Marklee and Jamie Bush + Co., preserves original features like lights, curtains, and the ticket booth, while a blue-and-gray striped graphic pattern on the exterior unifies the two buildings and recalls vintage LA boulevard billboards. Founded by Emmanuel Perrotin in 1990 when he was 21, the gallery now adds this Los Angeles venue to its existing locations in Paris (three), Hong Kong, New York, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Dubai, bringing its total footprint to over 9,000 square meters. Perrotin represents about 70 artists and estates. The expansion reflects Los Angeles's growing appeal in the art market; Perrotin cited the city's diverse cultural scene, unique network of artists, museums, collectors, and enthusiasts, and the centrality of art to the city's identity. The gallery aims to launch new projects for its artists and expand its US presence.
