Perrier-Jouët's Art Nouveau Legacy and Contemporary Art Commissions

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-04

Founded in 1811 by Rose-Adélaïde Jouët and Pierre-Nicolas Perrier, the Champagne house Perrier-Jouët has maintained a deep connection with art since its inception. In 1902, Art Nouveau pioneer Emile Gallé created the anemone motif for the prestige cuvée Belle Époque, which became the house's emblem. The Maison Belle Époque in Epernay, originally the founders' residence, was transformed in 1990 under President and CEO Pierre Ernst into a venue housing an exceptional Art Nouveau collection featuring works by Majorelle, Guimard, Lalique, and Rodin. Recently restored, it includes guest quarters for clients. Perrier-Jouët continues commissioning contemporary artists such as Daniel Arsham, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, Miguel Chevalier, Makoto Azuma, Tord Boontje, Studio Glithero, Simon Heijdens, Vik Muniz, mischer'traxler, Ritsue Mishima, Andrew Kudless, Luftwerk, and Bethan Laura Wood to interpret nature and Art Nouveau themes. Since 2012, the house has partnered with Design Miami, commissioning a young designer each year; works by Studio Glithero, mischer'traxler, and Bethan Laura Wood have joined the collection. In 2019, Italian designer Andrea Mancuso of Analogia Project created the commission. Leo Damiani, Director of Perrier-Jouët Italy, explains that the house's philosophy centers on beauty and sensory experiences, with nature and art as core values.
