Permanent Committee Formed to Protect Casa Albero in Fregene

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

A Permanent Committee for the Protection of the Casa Albero (Tree House) in Fregene, near Rome, has been established by architect Patrizio Bitelli and has already secured the support of the Fiumicino municipal administration. The committee aims to safeguard and promote the experimental brutalist house designed by architects Giuseppe Perugini, Uga De Plaisant, and their son Raynaldo Perugini between 1968 and 1971. The building, also known as the Casa Sperimentale, has suffered from vandalism and neglect in recent years. The committee plans to make the property accessible for cultural events such as concerts, exhibitions, and fashion shows. A restoration of the 'Palla' (Ball), one of the architectural test objects on the site, has been completed, and work on the interiors and window replacements is underway. The committee seeks sponsors and hopes to establish a security service to prevent further vandalism. In September 2020, guided tours will be held on the 19th, 20th, 26th, and 27th, organized by Raynaldo Perugini in collaboration with Open House Roma and Emanuela Petrucci, marking the 25th anniversary of Giuseppe Perugini's death. The tours also include Villa La Saracena in Santa Marinella, designed by Luigi Moretti.
