Peripheric 4 Festival Transforms Iassy's Art Scene with International Exhibitions and Performances

festival-fair · 2026-04-19

From May 18-24, 2000, Iassy's artistic scene was invigorated by the fourth Peripheric festival, established by Matei Bejenaru. This event turned the city into a center for contemporary art, showcasing three significant international exhibitions in unique locations, such as a vacant public bath house and a Turkish bath. The Wet/Dry exhibition included a variety of installations from artists like Karen Kipphoff, Agatha Zobrist, and Theres Waeckerlin. Performance highlights featured Hellen McBride and Roddy Hunter, while Radek Vana curated The Girls' Show, focusing on Czech feminist viewpoints. Personal Mapping at the Palace of Culture showcased works by Teodor Graur and Dan Mihalteanu. The festival wrapped up with politically charged performances by Margarethe Makovec and Anton Lederer, promoting tolerance and new ideas in Romania's cultural landscape.
