Periferico Festival Returns to Modena with Site-Specific Performances and Heiner Goebbels Lecture

The eighth iteration of Periferico, titled Futuro Antenato, is set to occur from May 27 to 29 at OvestLab in Modena, Italy. Curated by the team from Associazione Amigdala—Federica Rocchi, Gabriele dalla Barba, Meike Clarelli, Sara Garagliani, and Davide Cristiani—the festival showcases eight performances tailored to specific locations, along with discussions, installations, videos, and sound pieces from European artists. Key themes include the interplay of art and craftsmanship, memory, transformation, and the repurposing of industrial sites. Notable performers such as Márcia Lança, Kaja Lorenci, and Ivan Mijačević will participate. A significant feature is a lecture by Heiner Goebbels, who served as the artistic director of Ruhrtriennale from 2012 to 2014 and received the Franco Quadri Prize in 2015, focusing on "Landscape plays in urban spaces" and the "aesthetics of absence" in modern performing arts. The festival will utilize various locations, including workshops, streets, and abandoned railway tracks within the Villaggio Artigiano district of Modena Ovest.
