Perfumes of the East Exhibition Opens at Saudi National Museum in Riyadh

exhibition · 2026-04-23

In Riyadh, the Saudi National Museum has inaugurated 'Perfumes of the East,' its inaugural international exhibition, with the support of Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, the Minister of Culture. This exhibition, created in collaboration with the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, delves into the rich historical and cultural connections of the Arab world to perfume. Visitors can view over 200 archaeological and contemporary pieces divided into three main themes: 'Sublime and Generous Nature' (featuring raw materials such as frankincense, amber, and myrrh), 'The Scents of the City' (highlighting perfume's role in social contexts), and 'Fragrant Courtesy' (celebrating guest-welcoming traditions). The olfactory experience is further enhanced by innovative scent-dispensing devices from perfumer Christopher Sheldrake. The exhibition will be open until September 14, 2024, with tickets available through the Discover Culture platform, alongside a variety of workshops and seminars focused on perfume ingredients, creation, and packaging design.
