Performatorio: Italy's smallest performance art center opens in Bergamo

exhibition · 2026-04-27

On January 25, 2024, Performatorio, a new center dedicated to performance art, opens in Bergamo in a former washhouse at via Nazario Sauro 3/a. Claimed to be the smallest performance art center in Italy, it is founded by Fiorenzo Terenghi, Stefano Scandella, and Laura Nozza through the Associazione P – Aps. The space focuses on avant-garde visual, scenic, and sound art, emphasizing the body, action, and experience. The inaugural event features artist Matteo Rubbi with music by Ballardian Dream Machine (Edoardo Serena). The 2024 program includes Jacopo Benassi, Violaine Lochu, Ryosuke Kiyasu, Hyenaz (Kathryn Fischer and Adrienne Teiche from Berlin), Ateliersi (from Bologna), and Jacopo Miliani. Performatorio aims to fill a gap in local and regional performance art offerings, creating a unique relationship between performer and audience. The project continues Bergamo's trend of repurposing disused spaces for cultural use, following the Gres Art 671 project.
