Penny Slinger's 1970s Tantric Collages Resurface in London Exhibition After Decades of Obscurity

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The Richard Saltoun gallery in London is hosting 'Penny Slinger: Tantric Transformations' from 28 June to 24 August 2019, featuring the artist's works from the 1970s. This exhibition presents her 'Tantric' collages and Xerox pieces, which were previously displayed in her 1977 'Secrets' show before she stepped back from the art scene. After departing London in 1979, Slinger relocated to California in the 1990s. Her artistic journey began in 1969 after graduating from Chelsea College, focusing on the portrayal of traumatic female experiences. Notable pieces include her 1971 photobook '50% The Visible Woman' and her involvement in radical theatre. The 2009 exhibition 'Angels of Anarchy' helped revive interest in her 1970s work, linking it to modern feminist discourse.
