Pennelli Ribelli Street Art Festival Returns to Marzabotto

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The Pennelli Ribelli street art festival, founded in 2018 by Andrea Casciu, Alex Sabatini, and Giulio Campana, returns for its second edition on September 16, 2019, in Marzabotto, Italy. The festival aims to revitalize industrial buildings—including an abandoned paper mill and Enel cabins—through murals that commemorate the Monte Sole massacre of September 29, 1944, when nearly 800 civilians were killed by Nazi-fascist forces. The first edition featured artists Ericailcane, Nemo's, Collettivo Fx, Guerrilla Spam, Kiki Skipi, Skan, and Giulio Vesprini, transforming the ex-cartiera di Lama di Reno into a national and international street art destination. The second edition invites artists Bastardilla, Sardomuto, Run, Nicola Alesandrini, and Lisa Gelli, with Guerrilla Spam returning to lead a workshop with migrants. The festival's symbol is a wolf, honoring partisan commander Mario Musolesi ("il Lupo"). Funding includes €4,000 from crowdfunding and €11,000 from the Emilia-Romagna region. A new fundraising initiative, Nemo's Estrazione, offers numbered prints for €25 with a chance to win an original work. Casciu emphasizes active memory through positive, creative, and rebellious proposals, aiming to expand the project along the Reno Valley and make Marzabotto a symbol of resistance.
