On December 12, the Penn Museum will open its reimagined Egypt Galleries: Life and Afterlife, marking a century since the original Egyptian Galleries first opened. This unveiling is a key milestone in the largest transformation project in the museum's 139-year history. The new galleries draw from one of the most significant Egyptian collections in the United States, featuring over 1,000 artifacts that span 4,000 years, exploring themes of daily life, work, worship, and preparation for the afterlife. This is the first phase of the bi-level, 14,000-square-foot Ancient Egypt and Nubia Galleries. The Egypt Galleries: Life and Afterlife occupy a large central gallery and three connecting spaces, covering the entire 7,000-square-foot Main Level of the Eckley B. Coxe Wing, which was originally constructed in 1926 and has been fully renovated for this project.
