Pelli Clarke & Partners Completes Lola Mora Cultural Center in Argentina
Pelli Clarke & Partners has finalized the Centro Cultural Lola Mora in San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina, honoring the Argentine sculptor Lola Mora (1866-1936). This marks the firm's inaugural cultural structure in South America and serves as the final project of founder César Pelli. The center features six of Mora's marble sculptures, displayed indoors for the first time in over a century, and is designed as a net-zero energy facility located on a hillside at the Andes' base. It comprises exhibition halls, an interpretation center, a library, a restaurant, and areas for temporary exhibitions. The sculptures, initially created for the Argentine National Congress in 1906, are now safeguarded within the center. Landscape design was executed by Balmori Associates, focusing on ecological preservation and energy efficiency. Recent projects include MAD's Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza and the Shenzhen Natural History Museum.
