Peggy Guggenheim Collection launches crowdfunding campaign amid COVID-19 losses
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice has launched a crowdfunding campaign called 'Insieme per la PGC' to recover from a €2 million loss in ticket and shop revenue due to COVID-19. The museum, which reopened on June 2 after 86 days of closure, has reduced its opening hours to weekends only for the permanent collection, while the temporary exhibition 'Migrating Objects' remains closed. Director Karole P. B. Vail stated that the museum, a non-profit branch of The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, relies almost entirely on ticket and shop sales as it receives no state funding. The campaign aims to restore six-day-a-week operations, fund future exhibitions, and maintain free programs for children under 10, visually impaired visitors, seniors, and public programs. The museum celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, having opened to the public in 1980 at Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, Peggy Guggenheim's former home for 30 years. Staff have been reassigned as guards to reduce costs. Donations are accepted via donate.guggenheim-venice.it.
