Peggy Guggenheim Collection invites letters for founder's birthday

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice has launched 'Scrivi a Peggy' ('Write to Peggy'), an initiative inviting letters to the late collector Peggy Guggenheim for her birthday on August 26, 2019. This is part of the year-long program 'La continuità di una visione' marking two anniversaries: 70 years since Guggenheim moved to Venice in 1949, and 40 years since her death in 1979. Guggenheim settled at Palazzo Venier dei Leoni on the Grand Canal, bringing her collection of Cubist, Futurist, Metaphysical, Abstract, Surrealist, and Abstract Expressionist works by artists including Picasso, Kandinsky, Mondrian, Dalí, Pollock, and Rothko. The palace now houses the museum. She died in 1979 and is buried in the garden with her dogs. The museum invites anyone who knew her or was inspired by her to send letters to the museum address or email. Submissions will be added to the museum's archive of memories, photos, and guest books. Selected letters may be published on the museum's website and excerpts shared on social media with the hashtag #ScriviaPeggy. The initiative includes presentations and meetings with professionals to explore themes related to the collections and ongoing exhibitions.
