Peggy Guggenheim Collection Announces 2020 Exhibition Program

exhibition · 2026-04-27

In an interview with Artribune, Karole P.B. Vail, the director of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, outlines the museum's 2020 agenda. The program kicks off with 'Migrating Objects. Art from Africa, Oceania and the Americas,' which highlights Peggy Guggenheim's fascination with non-Western art from the 1950s and 1960s. Featured works come from Mali, Ivory Coast, New Guinea, Mexico, and Peru, alongside pieces from the European avant-garde. A summer exhibition will honor Brazilian artist Lygia Clark (1920–1988), while the year will wrap up with a tribute to Venetian artist Edmondo Bacci. Vail underscores the significance of the permanent collection and reflects on a fruitful 2019, despite the challenges posed by the acqua alta on November 12. She also addresses overtourism, advocating for quality artistic experiences for younger visitors.
