Peggy Franck transforms Palazzo De’ Toschi into a domestic space
Dutch artist Peggy Franck (born 1978 in Zevenaar) presents the exhibition 'In a Naked Room' at Palazzo De’ Toschi in Bologna, from February 4 to March 2, 2025. Curated by Davide Ferri, the show reconfigures the Sala Convegni Banca di Bologna—a formal conference hall—into a bare, domestic environment. Franck spent January 2025 painting large aluminum sheets on-site, creating a new floor that can be disassembled and rearranged horizontally or vertically, fragmenting the room's spatiality. The reflective surfaces, layered with brushstrokes, engage the viewer's body and movement. Her fluid, volatile painterly style evokes Abstract Expressionism, referencing artists like De Kooning, Motherwell, and Helen Frankenthaler. Franck also incorporates found objects and raw materials, and uses photography to capture her installations, which she reinserts into new works. Her practice blurs painting, sculpture, and photography, exploring the fluid boundary between private and public interior spaces. She has previously exhibited at Arcade London, Stigter van Doesburg Amsterdam, Frans Hals Museum Haarlem, and PSM Berlin, and held residencies at Rijksakademie Amsterdam and Künstlerhaus Bethaniën Berlin.
