Pedro Cabrita Reis presents XIV Steps at Magazzino del Sale 3 during Venice Biennale
Lisbon-born artist Pedro Cabrita Reis, born in 1956, has presented XIV Steps, a collection of fourteen diptychs inspired by the Stations of the Cross, at the Magazzino del Sale 3 during the 61st Venice Biennale. In collaboration with Luca Berta and Michael Short, the installation forms a rhythmic pathway that merges painting, materials, and spatial design. Having emerged in the 1980s and 1990s, Cabrita Reis explores the relationship between sculpture, architecture, and post-minimalist painting. The diptychs feature deep hues of purple, dark red, black, and orange, with striking black diagonals evoking architectural elements. While reflecting on universal suffering, the work also touches on modern violence in an abstract way. The exhibition runs until November 22, 2026.
