Pedro Cabrita Reis Exhibits New Sculptural Works at Tracy Williams Ltd. in New York

Pedro Cabrita Reis, a Portuguese artist, presented recent works in the exhibition 'One Place and Another' at Tracy Williams Ltd., a new gallery in New York's West Village, from March 13 to May 1, 2004. The show featured sculptures and wall-mounted reliefs made from materials like weathered wood, extruded aluminum door panels, fluorescent light fixtures, auto paint, metal angles, and glass, evoking urban experiences. A central piece, a serene sculpture over seven feet high with a diagonal door, had been displayed earlier at the Armory Show. In the gallery, 'Favorite Places #5' (2004) dominated the main room with its tower-like structure and dangling wires, while two shiny aluminum tables were partially adjoined. Two wall-mounted reliefs used painted glass to create screen-like pictures reminiscent of storefronts or public transportation. The title piece, 'One Place or Another' (2004), consisted of a wall shelf above a small brick pile. Reis's work, blending painting, sculpture, and architecture, transforms common building remnants into poetic assemblages that reimagine modern spatial interactions.
