Pedro Almodóvar's First European Photography Exhibition Opens in Verona

Pedro Almodóvar, recipient of the 2019 Venice Film Festival Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, presents his first Italian photography exhibition, 'Vida detenida', at Grenze Arsenali Fotografici in Verona. The show, previously presented in New York, features photographs taken in domestic and private settings, focusing on everyday objects like glasses, flowers, plates, and kitchen utensils. Almodóvar describes the images as 'still life' rather than nature morte, emphasizing their vitality and emotional resonance. The project originated during a period of isolation as a spontaneous act of observation and contemplation. No post-production or technical intervention was used; each shot preserves the immediacy and fragility of real time. The first image in the series is inspired by a work of Spanish artist Isabel Quintanilla, and literary references include verses by Wordsworth cited in the critical afterword by Simone Azzoni. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog published by Lazy Dog Press, an independent Milanese publisher specializing in graphics, typography, and visual arts, active since 2012.
