Pedevilla Architects Named Italian Architect of the Year at Festa dell’Architetto 2023

award · 2026-04-27

At the Festa dell’Architetto 2023, the jury led by Spanish architect José Ignacio Linazasoro awarded both top prizes to studios in Trentino-Alto Adige. Pedevilla Architects won the Premio Architetto/a italiano/a for the Casa di Riposo Santa Barbara retirement home in San Leonardo in Passiria (BZ), completed in 2022. The jury praised the studio's ability to reconcile different scales, reinvent vernacular language with contemporary forms and materials, and regenerate existing structures while respecting local traditions. Labics received a special mention for the renovation of Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara, completed this year, noted for mediating tensions in a constrained context. A second mention went to SON Cascina San Carlo in Milan by B22 and Carlo Venegoni, recognized for its relationship with the city and sensitivity to vulnerable users. In the emerging talent category, Campomarzio + Michele Moresco won the Premio Giovane Talento for the Centro sportivo S. Martino in Passiria, Bolzano. Camilla De Camilli, a 2009 graduate of USI – Accademia di Architettura, was mentioned for her Casa del Custode (2022) in Bologna. The awards highlight the region's role as a fertile ground for architecture that balances sustainability, social care, and economic viability.
